31 Jul SeaWorld Surpass 30,000 Rescues
In honor of World Oceans Day, we are announcing that we have reached a historic milestone – surpassing 30,000 animal rescues. That is more than one rescue every day for over 50 years and more than four rescues each and every day since 2010 alone!
We want to extend a special thanks to each of you for helping us reach this milestone. The passion, expertise, and commitment of our animal care and rescue teams – along with all of our Ambassadors – have provided more than 30,000-second chances (or sometimes third chances) at life.
For more than 50 years, our rescue teams have played a vital role in the rescue and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife in the United States. Many of the animals we rescue have been directly or indirectly affected by human activity. The planet’s oceans are teeming with trash – an estimated 5.25 trillion items that should not be in the water.
The focus of World Oceans Day 2017 is on encouraging solutions to plastic pollution and preventing marine litter. Plastic debris is one of the deadliest forms of pollution for the thousands of marine animals that are trapped, injured, or killed by discarded plastics, hooks, and fishing line every year. From ocean clean ups to eliminating the use of plastic bags, it is people like you that inspire and educate others to join us in protecting animals and the wild wonders of the world.
Caring for imperiled animals has always been one of our core values. Each year, we provide our dedicated and experienced personnel including animal care specialists and veterinarians towards this mission. This, together with the time, materials and equipment, is valued on average at about $10 million.
We could not be more proud of the animal care staff and rescue teams, as well as all of our Ambassadors, as we achieve this monumental milestone of 30,000 animal rescues. Thank you for making this world a better place!
